Body Therapy – Acupressure + Deep Tissue Massage

Body Therapy is b-ê :: well’s signature therapeutic session. It is a combination of Acupressure, Deep Tissue Massage and Myofascia release.

Acupressure is an energetic bodywork. The points are choreographed with intentions – intentions to move and rebalance the flow of energy within the body. It applies the same Acu-points on the meridians as in Acupuncture in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Gentle to deep pressure is applied to the Acu-points or meridians as a form of stimulation instead of needle. Friction, kneading, tapping and chopping are a common massage techniques in Acupressure where the therapist works at specific stagnations with their thumb, fingers, elbows or forearms. The movement and pressure are applied with intention. This is the part of the massage where “it hurts but feels good”. Deep tissue massage centers on realigning the deeper layers of connective and muscle tissue. It aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the tense areas, either following or going across the fiber’s of the muscles, tendons and fascia. Myofascial release, a form of bodywork that untangle the fascia (connective tissues) and to stretch and loosen the fascia so that it and other contiguous structures can move more freely, thus the restricted motion can be restored.

Bringing together Acupressure, Deep Tissue and Myofascia Release, BoODY THERAPY offers a complete relaxation and rejuvenation to both your body and mind. Besides addressing the symptoms or pain, the intention of Body Therapy is to restore the body to a certain state of alignment and relaxation. It is like watching the ripple in the water slowly restore itself to the state of peace and calm, providing the clarity to see under the water and allowing the quiet surface to reflect the world above the water. It is ideal for releasing stress due to work or emotions, chronic pains, tensions due to trauma, digestion problems, seasonal allergies and pre-menstrual tension.

Body Therapy – follow up sessions

Body Therapy follow ups are the follow up sessions after the first few appointments. Depending on the condition, it may take 1 or 2 or more sessions before the body understand how to restore itself. It is encouraged to take 4 consecutive sessions weekly or bi-weekly for a complete therapeutic cycle. The body prefers to be stimulated and/or released incrementally, so are the mind and the spirit. The physical, emotional and psychological conditions of the individual during each session are being considered at each appointment, and the pace and therapeutic assessment will be applied accordingly to deliver a holistic and energetic session.

Body Therapy was born from my interests and ongoing research and education on releasing tensions or relaxation. Relaxation, our Yin energy, is not being shown or taught in mainstream skill-based or academic learning systems. This is not surprising because it is the opposite of what productivity means in a corporate and consumer-based society. However, the body functions on an internal balancing system or the Yin (cooling) and the Yang (activating). Within the vast traditional healing science in various cultures, such as in TCM, it is the balance between the Yin & Yang or in Ayurveda, it is the balance amongst vata, pitta and kappa. Whether it is Yin-Yang or Vitta-Pitta-Kapha, they are basic types of energy or functional principles where the therapists relate the basic biology of the body to. According to Ayurveda, TCM and Yogic values, any ailments, discomforts or illnesses are deeply rooted in and interrelated to the emotional and mental states of being, as well as the correlate stress level of the body, of which creates an imbalance in the hormonal system. Stress is an encompassing concept, yet, it can also simply explained as a form of stimulation, and it is inevitable that we encounter all kinds of stimulation on a daily basis. So, the question is how do we deal and cope with these stimulations or stress? How can we teach the body to identify stimulations from stress? How can we learn to inform the body to be fully relaxed? You may even ask: is it possible? And the answer is: Certainly! Even though relaxation is not something being taught in school or work, it is definitely possible to learn techniques to guide the body to relax and be on the same page with the mind. The goal of my practice is to bring you to a place where we are embodied with nature (internally and externally).

Deep tissue massage is a type of massage therapy that focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It is especially helpful for chronic aches and pains and contracted areas such as stiff neck and upper back, low back pain, leg muscle tightness, and sore shoulders.

Some of the same strokes are used as classic massage therapy, but the movement is slower and the pressure is deeper and concentrated on areas of tension and pain in order to reach the sub-layer of muscles and the fascia (the connective tissue surrounding muscles). There is usually some stiffness or pain after a deep tissue massage, but it should subside within a day or so. It’s possible that you might feel some soreness the day after a deep tissue massage, and should drink lots of water after the session. This just means a lot of waste products were flushed out of the tissues. It should pass within a day or so.
